Our Own Clay Creations
After the holidays we spent some time working on our tiles for the new school! As soon as those were complete, we got back to clay creations. The children brainstormed their own ideas and went right to work. We are painting them this week. Check it out below!
Clay Pinch Pots for the Holidays
Students were introduced to clay right before holiday break. We had just enough time to create our own pinch pots and paint them!
Painting Maisy's Rainbow Dream
After reading the book "Maisy's Rainbow Dream" and talking about color and shape, the students designed their own dream painting. Here are a few examples. Enjoy!
Mixing Colors
The students have been working on mixing new colors using primary colors and white. They have loved discovering new colors during their experimentation!
There are a few examples of our finished work mixing the colors of our Thanksgiving dinner!

The Finished Results of our Leaf Drawings!
These beautiful watercolors were created from our original leaf drawings. They turned out so well! Not every child's work is here as they were very anxious to bring them home, and therefore I did not get pictures of all of them. Enjoy!
A peek into our latest adventure...
During the fall we just have to take time to draw what the season brings the most of - leaves! The children are drawing through observation (no tracing!) and are learning to see the lines in an object. These drawings are not finished yet...stop in next week to see how we finish them up!
Oil Pastels and Blended Pumpkins
The children learned how oil pastels can be blended together to make new colors, much like paint. We read "Growing Pumpkins" together and looked at the colors we saw on the pumpkins and vines. The kids discovered that the pumpkins were not just orange, but also had other colors in them such as yellow, brown, and white. They tackled these drawings with confidence and you can see how they experimented with blending colors together!
Working with lines and shapes with our Pigeon friend of "The Pigeon Finds a Hot Dog!"
The kids all loved this pigeon book! Mo Willems is one of my favorite authors/illustrators. We recreated our own silly situations for the pigeon to get into! Check them all out below.
Drawing Material Exploration in all Classes
We have started the 2013-2014 school year with our drawing unit. The students work with crayon, oil pastels, markers, and colored pencils. We will end the unit with some observational drawing that will lead us into painting!
